Ritta Koleva is an accomplished costume maker and multidisciplinary artist who has been working in the wardrobe department in theatre and film for over the three decades.

Born Russian, Koleva spent her formative years in Bulgaria studying visual arts at Peter Beron Arts College. She worked for theatres and fashion houses while running her own business creating one of a kind garments. In 1990 she moved across the globe to Toronto and later attended the International Academy of Merchandising & Design where she graduated in 1996 with honours in fashion. As a student, she received awards for her designs in international competitions including, 'Best Fashion Design' at The Smirnoff International Competition, 'Best Fashion Design' at The Air France International Haute Couture Competition and 'Best Jewellery Design' at La Monnaie De Paris International Jewellery Competition.

Ritta has a diverse portfolio with expertise ranging from elaborate dressmaking in historical period dramas, to intricate leatherwork and prop making for science fiction movies. She has been credited for her work on academy award-winning film Chicago, with other highlights including Suicide Squad, Crimson Peak and Total Recall

Ritta fabricated theatres costumes for the casts of The Lion King, Mamma Mia and Phantom of the Opera. She was also involved with The National Ballet of Canada building costumes for performances such as Swan Lake and The Four Seasons.

Ritta continues to enjoy her life on and off of set. When she is not working or in her studio she can be found tending to her rooftop garden surrounded by her cats. She is currently located in the Riverside neighbourhood of Toronto.
